Lutolence
Sound Visualization
Lutolence is a sound visualization project that allows users to listen to a demo depicting domestic violence and play with the sound by moving the cursor. It encourages the perpetrators and the survivors of domestic violence to think about how violence can change the color of a face.
Domestic violence (also known as intimate partner violence, battering, or spouse abuse) is a pattern of abusive behavior used in a relationship to gain control and power over an intimate partner. It happens to everyone across race, gender, socioeconomic status, education, and sexual orientation.
1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men, have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime. Every year, nearly 10 million women and men become victims of domestic violence. Every minute, about 20 people are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. Moodboard
There's a lot of artwork, including films, exhibitions, paintings, TV shows and music that's created to combat domestic violence. Through this research, I collected images related to domestic violence-related topics, and I discovered the color of the injury which also reflects the devastated Lutos. Therefore, I decided to name this project Lutos, and use its colors as its main palatte.

Composing
The demo was made by using Ableton Live.
Inspiration
Inspired by a Chinese TV show "Please leave me alone", I decided to make a music demo with audio clips taken from the original soundtrack. This demo depicts a story about a husband and his wife, which consists of the sound of a man talking, the voice of abuse and the spasmodic sobs of the wife.

The left code shows loadinng the image of cursor and the audio file I composed before. If the cursor move close to the center of the canvas, the image will change to the second one.
Create the “play” button for controlling the song playing and detect user’s input to control the play/pause
Set the volume as the position of cursor, if the cursor move close to the center of the canvas, the volume will be adjusted to higher. Draw the lutos shape with strokes, and makee it moving and rotating according to the amp value of the song.
